For years, Olympos has served some of the best traditional Greek cuisine in Prague, combining great food with great atmosphere. While we're rarely seen anyone dine in the front dining room, the action is in the larger, more lively, rear dining room/atrium. The tree-shaded garden, enclosed by the surrounding residential buildings, is a great place during the summer months. There's even a small playground to keep the kids occupied. Service is generally good -- moderately friendly, professional and attentive.
The menu contains the Greek staples: Hummus, Tzatziki, cold vegetables and salads; hot starters -- usually red or green peppers, aubergine, either fried or grilled -- along with potatoes served fried or grilled; and meatballs (Keftedakia).
There is plenty of quality lamb, pork and fish to choose from, and usually grilled, but can be baked or fried. And of course, the menu includes a long list of stuffed stuff: vegetables (usually aubergine) stuffed with minced meat, bechamel, or potatoes -- or all three; cabbage or wine leaves stuffed with rice; lamb stuffed with cheese; ad infinitum. Or, rather, επί άπειρο.
Wine by the bottle is available, but we suggest sticking to the house wines. (we prefer the white, (dry and sweet are available) served cold.
It can be easy to order too much. Our recommendation: order a variety of the starters and enjoy them -- slowly -- along with the house white. Then save room for something from the grill, either beef or fish, along with another starter or side. Skip the potatoes, french fries and rice -- go with the grilled vegetables, or another pepper stuffed with cheese. You'll usually find yourself stuffed and satisfied at a reasonable price.
Olympos is busy most evenings -- reservations are suggested.
Recommended: Tzatziki; fried eggplant; fried zucchini; saganaki (several options of cheeses to choose from); gigandes (beans); psaronefri (bon fillet).
