Masala - Mánesova

Mánesova 13, Prague 2 | +420 222 251 601 | Map | Website

Masala has earned a reputation as one of the better Indian restaurants in Vinohrady, if not all of Prague -- and the reputed is well-deserved. The menu contains a good mix of Tandori, Madras, Vindaloo, Korma and other dishes. The vegetarian menu offers a good choice of potato, cheese and bean-based items. The one downside may be the limited number of prawn and fish selections on the menu; depending on the mood of the wait staff and the cook, you may be able to get prawns served with the Korma or Saagwala.

While the portions may not be large, they are well-made and the amount of spice can be altered to suit your taste buds. If you are hungry, we advise ordering three dishes for two people -- a chance to sample a greater variety of what Masala has to offer. If you want to try a variety of dishes, a large and reasonably-priced (CZK 1200 for two) tasting menu is offered -- prepared for two people, it contains a couple of starters, a selection of Tandori and sauce-based main courses, as well as rice and bread.

Service is prompt and friendly. With a limited number of tables, the Mánesova location is not suitable for larger groups. (for larger outings, try the Pod Karlovem location)

Recommended: Tandori platter for two; lamb Korma; Rogan Josh; prawn Vindaloo; onion Bahji.

  1. We asked for the King Prawn Vindaloo to be prepared with just a small amount of spice; it turned out to be good, so it can be a good choice if you're keen on prawns, and something exotic like a Vindaloo, but don't want the pain of too much spice. That said, the normal to quite-spicy version of Masala's Vindaloo is much better, if you're taste buds can stand it. (3/1/11)
